At only 19 years old, German hockey player Tim Stützle has just made his pro debut in the NHL by being drafted to the Ottawa Senators. Selected third overall in the October 2020 NHL entry draft, Stützle is off to a brilliant start this season, showing outstanding offensive prowess and impressive statistics.

Originally from Viersen, near Düsseldorf, Tim grew up playing soccer, but his passion for hockey quickly developed; at 17, he was already making his professional debut in Europe as a forward with the Mannheim Eagles (Adler). And recently, Tim represented Germany for a second time at the 2021 World Junior Hockey Championship. As captain, he was on the score sheet multiple times and was recognized as the tournament’s top forward.

Tim was kind enough to take some time to share with us the highlights of his journey to the National Hockey League. In this short interview, Tim shares his enthusiasm for living his passion in Canada’s capital, having cultivated admiration for many Canadian players in his youth. He says he appreciates his new adopted country, although the northern climate could be warmer! He admits he misses his family, friends and the excellent German cuisine, but he is pleased about the new friendships he has made within his new team, which he feels has great potential to reap success – this year and for many more to come.
