Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart presents Hofesh Shechter and Marie Chouinard’s interpretations of the iconic work Swan Lake. New to the program will be a presentation of the cult classic Minus 16, choreographed by Ohad Naharin.

About Swan Lakes

Choreographer and artistic director of Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Eric Gauthier has given two internationally renowned choreographers creative license to re-envision the legendary ballet, Swan Lake. Inspired by Tchaikovsky’s famous score, world-renowned choreographers (Hofesh Shechter and Marie Chouinard) re-interpret the work into their daring choreographic languages, subverting its classical roots to bring two new stories to the stage with each 20-minute vignette mysterious, radical and explosive in approach. Bursting with energy, dancers draw on the beloved piece for an original and exciting contemporary dance creation. Harbourfront Centre hosts its Canadian premiere, part of its 2023/24 season of Torque.

About Minus 16

Featuring an eclectic score ranging from Dean Martin to mambo, techno to traditional Israeli music, Minus 16 is a work by Ohad Naharin. The performance, based on excerpts from other pieces in his repertory, uses improvisation and Naharin’s acclaimed Gaga method, a bespoke movement language that pushes dancers to challenge themselves in new ways. Minus 16 surprises in its unpredictability, celebrating the joy of dancing.
