The Goethe-Institut inaugurates specially commissioned works for Nuit blanche 2018 !

The Goethe-Institut, in collaboration with the Quartier des spectacles Partnership, is proud to present two works by the inventive research and design studio from Berlin: The Constitute.

After presenting their work in many international settings, from Germany, France, the US and China, The Constitute, known for such innovative works as Human Beeing and EYEsect, comes to Montreal for their first visit to Canada. The Constitute has created two original works for the Goethe-Institut, one, Zeit-Slice, to be experienced outside by way of an interactive window projection connecting the cities of Berlin and Montreal, and the other,  a special VR experience of selected Berlin-neighbourhoods which awaits the public inside only on Nuit blanche.

Zeit-Slice, a window onto Germany, instantly connects us to three places in Berlin: Hermannplatz, Pannierbrücke and Müggelsee. By controlling the window touchscreens, the spectator on the sidewalk can access a 360° panorama that takes them 6,000 km away to Berlin. The image starts to transform, showing 24 hours in the life of a city at once very far, yet very close. Is daily life so different in Berlin? A new kind of interactive device for bringing city-dwellers together.

Zeit-Slice was commissioned as part of Germany @ Canada 2017: Partners from Immigration to Innovation

Have you always wanted to go to Berlin, but haven’t managed yet? Or, have you been longing to get back to this wonderful, creative city? Here is your chance. From 8 pm – 1 am The Constitute will host virtual reality sessions for the public combining images and smells of Berlin. With specially-modified VR headsets, the public will be able to experience Berlin in 360° as well as specially captured smells of Berlin creating a highly immersive experience.
