The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange.
With our network of Goethe-Instituts, Goethe Centres, cultural societies, reading rooms and exam and language learning centres, we have been the first point of contact for many with Germany for over sixty years. Our long-lasting partnerships with leading institutions and individuals in over ninety countries create enduring trust in Germany. We are partners for all who actively engage with Germany and its culture, working independently and without political ties.
In Canada we are represented by three Goethe-Instituts in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto. Outside of these cities we offer special online courses as well as examinations centres with our partners in Calgary, Vancouver and Winnipeg. Worldwide, the Goethe-Instituts’ language-learning system is modeled after the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for language acquisition. We also connect adults and youth with courses at our institutions in Germany.
Through a spectrum of cultural events, the Goethe-Institut has been leading continuous dialogue and cultural exchange between German and Canadian artists over the last 50 years, presenting German culture abroad and providing a contemporary look at the country.
