German-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research

Sharing is caring!

The German-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research (GCCIR) is a bilateral initiative for the development of German–Canadian research, business and industry relations. The Centre provides support for the exchange of information, development of networks, and the establishment and cultivation of collaborative partnerships in academia and business. The main goal is to enhance international knowledge and technology transfer and to raise the profile of both countries as centres of excellence in innovation and research.

The centre works together with universities, research institutions, and academic networks in Germany and Canada to advance existing partnerships and connections, and to help forge new opportunities for researchers and students. The GCCIR also manages a funding program that fosters innovation by connecting German and Albertan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that offer cutting-edge ideas and products with strong market potential. The fund is a joint program established by the GCCIR, the Alberta Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). To date, 15 joint projects have been funded and four have been successfully completed.
