An Afternoon with Efua Traoré: Migration, Belonging, and Adventure

We are thrilled to invite you to a special afternoon with German-Nigerian author Efua Traoré, as she brings her captivating storytelling to life with a reading from her short stories and passages from her award-winning children’s adventure novel,Kinder des Treibsands(Children of the Quicksands).

Born to a German mother and Nigerian father, Efua Traoré’s rich cultural heritage shines through in her writing. Now residing in Munich, Efua has garnered international acclaim, winning the Commonwealth Short Story Prize for Africa for her story “True Happiness” and the prestigious The Times/Chicken House Prize for her debut novelKinder des Treibsands.

Event Highlights:

  • Reading Focus: Efua will read a short story centered on the theme of migration, exploring the deep and universal feelings of longing and belonging.
  • Book Teaser: While the focus will be on the short story, Efua will also introduce her novelKinder des Treibsands, a magical tale of a young girl’s journey to uncover her family’s secrets in a remote Nigerian village.
  • Q&A Session: Children will have the opportunity to ask questions about the stories, themes, and Efua’s writing process.
