Lulling Time – Ten Years of Lullabies
Sound Installation | Participatory sound installation
- Goethe-Institut Montreal, Montreal
- PriceFree admission
A gentle immersion into the world of lullabies, this interactive sound installation reveals its treasures during a journey aboard a rocking chair. As a long-standing partner, the Goethe-Institut Montréal is hosting two sets of singing chairs this fall, ten years after the installation’s debut with DARE-DARE and Les Escales Improbables de Montréal in September 2016. Songs drawn from the collection—which now includes nearly 3,000 lullabies in over 110 languages—will be played on site through December 9, reviving a rich intangible cultural heritage from here and abroad.
Passed down in private, lullabies are often buried deep in childhood memories. Steeped in memory, they connect generations through a ritual of comfort and solace. They offer reassurance and guide us into the night.
Sit down and listen to the whispering of the chairs. Let yourself be lulled!
