Growing up on the grounds of one of the largest psychiatric clinics in Germany is somehow different. For Joachim, the clinic director’s youngest son, the patients are like family. They are also much kinder to him than his two older brothers, who provoke him into outbursts of anger. His mother, a watercolour painter, longs for Italian summer nights instead of the constant German rain, while his father secretly, but not discreetly enough, goes his own way. But as Joachim slowly grows up, his world begins to crack, and not just because of the loss of his first love…
