Celebrate International Women’s Day at Library and Archives Canada
Travelling Exhibition | Free admission
To mark International Women’s Day, Library and Archives Canada is pleased to host Women in Divided Germany, a travelling exhibition developed by the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany with the participation of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Canada.
Through a selection of archival photographs, documents and audiovisual links, this exhibition explores the different experiences of women living in East and West Germany between 1949 and 1990 and debunks many of the assumptions made by outsiders.
The Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany is an academic foundation, tasked under German law to study the causes, history and impact of the dictatorship in the Soviet occupation zone in Germany, the German Democratic Republic (“East Germany”) and East Central Europe. It promotes the reappraisal of the former Communist dictatorships in Germany and other countries as well as advancing public awareness at an international level. The Federal Foundation maintains partnerships with museums, memorial sites, institutions of political education, schools and universities, independent archives, historical societies and, not least, the associations of the victims of Communist dictatorship in Germany.
